DESCRIPTION: EPW - S DeCharmes, London (Simon, "Supposedly came from France to England ca 1685, free in Clockmakers Company in London 1692-ca 1730"- Loomes), verge fusee, 60mm, sterling silver OF original pair cases, the outer with classic square box-hinge, the inner with casemaker's incuse mark "P.R" (unknown), split-bezel, originally with winding-hole cover, KWKS, signed sterling silver champlevé dial, verge escapement, gilt mvt with winged, pierced & engraved foliate scrolled balance cock, without visible number. Gross weight of assembled watch 91.8 dwt (142.6 g).
CONDITION: Mvt: Ticks and stops, the cock now fitted with endstone setting but absent its stone, causing the watch to stop face-up, face down shows good balance motion, good escapement function, plates show excellent gilding, little oxide on steel components; dial excellent, little wax loss; hands near mint original, for hands approaching three centuries in age; original outer case shows light wear, brushed UFS, few MFS, some light dents or dings; button latch good, button top worn; original inner case shows less wear, many MFS, light dents or dings with one stronger dent to back shoulder; bow & pendant original, now tightened at base, almost turning; good domed bull's-eye glass crystal. Lovely original condition.
